Accessibility grants

Accessibility grants for buildings in Québec

Municipal programs (including Montréal), Québec and federal programs, and tax measures can help pay for automatic doors, accessible washrooms or ramps. Each one below shows its conditions and its status, checked on the official site. REFEXCO then helps you put together a complete application.

Programs last checked on October 28, 2026. Program details are English summaries of the official texts. For Québec and municipal programs, the French text prevails. REFEXCO is not a government agency and does not award grants.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are there grants to make a business accessible in Québec?

Yes, but they change often. Some cities, including Montréal, have a program for business accessibility, and Québec has one for tourist establishments. The federal Enabling Accessibility Fund works through calls for proposals; the last one closed on March 16, 2026. This page shows the verified status of each one and links to the official source.

Can I start the work before I get an answer?

Avoid it. Several programs refuse costs incurred before approval. Read the program's rules or ask for a check before signing a contract.

Do I have to pay for the work before receiving the grant?

Often, yes: many programs reimburse after the work, once you submit the invoices. Each program card shows how the grant is paid when the source says so.

Who submits the grant application?

Usually the owner or the operator of the business, depending on the program. REFEXCO prepares the detailed quote and the technical information to attach.

Does the calculator tell me how much I will get?

No. It applies the published rate and cap, assuming all your costs are eligible. The actual amount depends on the program's review.
